Schwarz IT and Cloud&Heat cooperate for cloud platform

Cloud&Heat Technologies Press News Article

Neckarsulm / Dresden, 26.11.2020. Whether e-commerce or Industry 4.0: many companies are driven by the question of how they can profitably digitise their business models and securely process the acquired data in accordance with the applicable European standards. That is why Schwarz IT KG, the central IT service provider of the Schwarz Group, is developing a new solution under the name of STACKIT a powerful cloud hosted in Germany. A close cooperation has now been agreed with the Dresden IT company Cloud&Heat Technologies to optimise and further develop the cloud computing architecture.

Schwarz IT KG, a member of the Schwarz Group, which includes the Kaufland and Lidl retail divisions, wants to establish a cloud platform from data centres in Europe via its digital brand STACKIT. In addition to internal customers, the aim is to appeal in particular to medium-sized companies that value high European security standards and are therefore looking for an alternative to existing providers or a supplement for their multi-cloud strategy.

Cloud&Heat brings years of OpenStack experience to the cloud project

Due to its expertise, the company Cloud&Heat was brought in for consultation to optimise STACKIT's existing OpenStack distribution. The Dresden-based green IT company has been working with OpenStack, the open source standard for cloud infrastructures, since 2012. Since then, Cloud&Heat, which like the Schwarz Group is a member of the European Cloud Project GAIA-X, has built up expertise in the life cycle management of open infrastructures. This includes the operation, monitoring and maintenance as well as optimisation of OpenStack distributions.
In the course of the collaboration, the plan emerged to jointly develop their own solution based on OpenStack. It is to be the foundation for Schwarz IT's future cloud offering. The software that both companies are developing for this purpose will be used for life-cycle management and thus for the further development of the existing cloud infrastructures. A very close dovetailing with the worldwide open source community around OpenStack is being sought. "We are very happy about the cooperation and convinced that together we will be able to set up a high-performance and future-proof infrastructure. An expansion of our cooperation into related business areas, for example in the field of sustainable energy, is also possible.
data centres, is being examined," explains Marius Feldmann, COO of Cloud&Heat Technologies GmbH.
