FAQs
Answers and frequently asked questions
Cloud&Heat Patron is an OpenStack distribution for setting up and operating public and private cloud infrastructures. This is provided by Cloud&Heat as part of installation services and is also operated as part of support contracts.
OpenStack is an open source cloud platform that consists of individual components such as compute, storage and network. The great advantage lies in its flexibility: each component can be configured individually and customised to meet specific requirements. At the same time, building a cloud infrastructure based on OpenStack also brings challenges. Installation, integration and operation are complex and time-consuming, updates and lifecycle management must be organised independently and in-depth expertise is required to ensure a stable and secure environment.
A distribution such as Cloud&Heat Patron is a ready-made, tested complete package based on OpenStack. It provides harmonised components and architecture, tools for installation, updates and operation (e.g. lifecycle management) as well as tested versions and defined upgrades. Cloud&Heat Patron combines OpenStack with automated lifecycle management (Yaook) for installation, updates and operation. An OpenStack cloud can thus be set up and operated more efficiently and securely.
For organisations that want to operate their own cloud infrastructure - e.g. companies, service providers or public institutions. Cloud&Heat Patron can cover a range of deployment scenarios. On-premises private clouds can be set up efficiently, robustly and securely. Cloud&Heat Patron is also suitable for public clouds or as a basis for IaaS offerings. For example, we use the distribution ourselves in order to Cloud&Heat IaaS offer to deliver.
The distribution follows established cloud standards for interfaces, security, interoperability and portability. On request, it can also implement the Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS) specifications to ensure maximum transparency and compatibility.
Yes, we can install your Cloud&Heat Patron and hand it over to you ready for operation. After commissioning, you can take over operation completely yourself if you have the resources and expertise to do so. On-demand support from us is also possible in this case. Optionally, we can also take over the operation and monitoring of the environment - either in a 9-5 or 24/7 model.
Thanks to the 100%igen use of open source technologies, there is no dependency on individual manufacturers. You are only dependent on the open source communities that develop software projects such as OpenStack and Yaook. These communities are established, very active and continuously ensure the further development, stability and long-term sustainability of the software components. This keeps your OpenStack environment modern, future-proof and independent of the decisions of individual providers.
Yes, existing infrastructure can usually be integrated. Alternatively, suitable Hardware be provided. If you need a fully preconfigured solution including hardware, cloud and support, our On-Premises Cloud Appliance products could be a good alternative for you.
