Today’s visit with Günther Oettinger and Michael Kretschmer was something special for us. The European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources and the Saxon Minister President not only wanted to view firsthand the innovative solutions of Cloud&Heat, but also had with them a concrete and high-priority topic in mind: the structural change of Lusatia (Lausitz). A short introduction to our company by founder and CTO Jens Struckmeier therefore quickly developed into an exciting discussion, with CEO Nicolas Röhrs and COO Marius Feldmann joining in as well.
All of the conversation participants agreed that a digital transformation creating new business models and jobs could offer a huge chance for the structural change in Lusatia, turning the coal region into a future-proof region. Jens Struckmeier showed one possibility: Sustainable and secure data centers built in various locations across Lusatia, creating a decentralized IT infrastructure – green IT instead of coal excavators. Whether that actually happens though will depend highly on how adaptable the political structure can be.
The newspaper Sächsische Zeitung covered the visit and Cloud&Heat’s vision of Green Data Centers for Lusatia in an extensive article.
Günther Oettinger visited our booth at the Hannover Messe today, where he continued the discussion with Nicolas Röhrs.
