Dresden\/Berlin, 21 May 2026<\/strong> - An important step for digital sovereignty in Saxony: The Dresden-based company Cloud&Heat Technologies has received the \u201eCertified SCS-compatible IaaS\u201c certification in accordance with the standards of the Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS). The award will be presented at the SCS Summit on 21 June 2026 in Berlin.<\/p>

This makes the company one of a growing number of providers in Germany whose cloud infrastructure fulfils the SCS IaaS standards and is therefore demonstrably interoperable, secure and can be operated independently. The standards define requirements for central components such as computing power, storage and networks and enable compatible operation across provider boundaries.<\/p>

The planned German stack also relies on SCS as a technical basis and emphasises the growing importance of open, sovereign cloud architectures for the digital infrastructure in Germany.\u00b9<\/a><\/p>

Saxony as a location for digital sovereignty<\/strong><\/p>

The certification emphasises Saxony's role as a location for future-proof cloud infrastructures and shows that solutions that meet European requirements for digital sovereignty, openness and independence are already being developed and operated in the Free State. Cloud&Heat Technologies has been operating open-source-based public cloud infrastructures for years and has now opened another location in Dresden in 2025, which has now been certified. The Dresden public cloud combines open standards with modern hardware and a regional partner network, including IBH IT-Service GmbH and the DD-IX internet node.<\/p>

Saxony's Economics Minister Dirk Panter emphasises: \u201eCloud&Heat Technologies combines state-of-the-art IT infrastructure with sustainable energy efficiency. The company shows that digital sovereignty is already possible today. Open standards and regional infrastructure strengthen the innovative strength, security and independence of our economy.\u201c<\/em><\/p>

How to create an SCS-compliant cloud infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>

The technical basis is the open source platform co-developed in Saxony Yaook<\/a>, which enables the automated setup and operation of modern cloud infrastructures. As a result, the infrastructure is standardised and reproducibly provided - a prerequisite for SCS-compliant environments. As part of the certification process, it was tested for interoperability, security and standard compliance in extensive automated test procedures.<\/p>

Impact on the economy and digital resilience<\/strong><\/p>

SCS-based cloud infrastructures reduce dependency on individual providers and increase interoperability between cloud environments. This makes it easier to switch providers, increases flexibility and improves the digital resilience of companies and public organisations. At the same time, Saxony is strengthening its role as a co-designer of European cloud standards and as a digital and technology centre.<\/p>

Cloud&Heat also provides infrastructure for projects that benefit the common good. The first resources of the Dresden cloud are used by the ALASCA e.V. association, which is committed to sovereign cloud infrastructures in Europe. As part of a grant from the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection (SMWA), ALASCA is working on the further development of open source-based, SCS-compatible cloud ecosystems in Saxony.\u00b2<\/a><\/p>

Cloud&Heat as an active shaper of open standards<\/strong><\/p>

Cloud&Heat Technologies has been involved in the development of the Sovereign Cloud Stack for years, is a member of the SCS Standards Forum and contributes its expertise to the further development of open cloud standards. The certification emphasises this approach and shows that cloud infrastructures from Saxony are actively contributing to the implementation of European standards for digital sovereignty.<\/p>
