Rewind Cebit 2018 – Looking backward and forward!

June 29th, 2018

We are back from an extremely successful CEBIT 2018! Even if the general public reaction to the new trade fair concept of CEBIT was rather restrained, we draw a very positive conclusion: This year we were again able to establish existing and meet new contacts, hold interesting and informative discussions with interested parties, customers and media representatives. We also had something to show: A running water cooled Datacenter Container was the focus of our booth. This was a real eye-catcher and many visitors were amazed as they walked along the path in hall 12.

But let’s turn back time a little at first. A big team of Cloud&Heat colleagues has been working on the realization of this unique booth concept for some time now. These included employees who have dealt with hardware, IT, design and more. On Monday, June 11, 2018, the project was finished: The Datacenter Container was functional, designed and equipped with our showcases, including the GPU/CPU showcase, which we lovingly called “The Moustache Application” . We also had a surprise planned: Our new Corporate Design was presented to the public for the first time.

The next few days were well filled: Every day we had countless conversations with curious and interested parties, interviews with media representatives, such as one or the other TV team and several editors of journals. Motivated colleagues led through the container and explained how our solutions meet the requirements of the customers. This never became monotonous due to the various challenges of the interested parties, as our employees were able to point out new possibilities for them every time. This resulted in many interested contacts, which want to start working with us rather soon.

Thanks to the Moustache Application, GPU and CPU computing power could be demonstrated clearly and vividly for everyone – and printing a nice CEBIT souvenir photo was also possible.

In addition to our Cloud&Heat booth, colleagues were also represented at the joint booth of our project with secunet Security Networks AG, SecuStack, and drew an equally positive conclusion. The project received further attention through a presentation on the topic “Secure OpenStack-based Cloud platform” by our colleague Dr. Anja Strunk, which took place on Friday at the OpenStack Summit of CEBIT.  She was also invited to the panel discussion “Cloud Convergence of OpenStack and Containers” by the organizers of the summit. This clearly shows that the topic of a security-hardened OpenStack-based cloud platform is appealing the community.

Thanks to the great team the fun at work did not come too briefly. A big thank you to everyone involved in every phase of the project who made this great performance possible – to work together on the vision of the #futureofcompute!

2019 we will defintly be back again with our next innovations and the water cooled Datacenter Container 2.0!
